Description
Laminating Pouches, also called Laminate Sleeves or Laminator Chips, are two pieces of plastic that have been sealed along one side and are open on three sides to insert your item. Gloss Finish laminating sleeves are most popular providing a smooth, shiny, clear look to any insert laminated. A Matte Finish laminator pouch helps reduce glare from lighting, smudges and improves grip.
Pouches-Chips are run through a pouch laminator that permanently melts plastic into the paper to fully and permanently seal your item. Laminating Pouches can be manufactured to a custom size or shape.

Defining a "Mil"
In Laminating Pouch terminology, a "mil" refers to one-thousandth of an inch, a measurement of the total thickness of a single layer of Laminating Film. Here, we speak of both the film itself and the glue, which together constitute the total mil thickness. Typically, laminating materials are double-sided, so we then double the thickness. So, a 5 mil laminating pouch will include 5 mils of film thickness on each side of your item, for a total of 10 mils.
Available Laminating Pouch Thicknesses
ALPS/Laminate.com plastic laminating sheets are sold in thicknesses of 3, 5, 7, and 10 mils, depending upon your preferred usage, with 3 being the thinnest and easiest to fold, 5-thicker but can be heat-scored and folded, 7-rigid, yet still pliable, and 10-the most rigid, similar to a credit card.
The two pieces of plastic (first number below) are coated with a heat-activated adhesive (second number below) that together account for the total mil (standard gauge thickness) of the pouch. The compositions of these pouches are:
- Find 1/2 for 3.0 mil, 2/3 or 3/2 for 5.0 mil, 5/2 or 4/3 for 7.0 mil, or 4/6 or 7/3 for 10 mil. The 3/2 or 7/3 composition pouches are recommended for better quality (more plastic, less glue).
- Custom Laminating Pouches are available from card size up to 37"x49" and are available in four mils. The mils are 3.0 per side = 6 mil, 5.0 per side = 10 mil, 7.0 per side = 14 mil, or 10 per side = 20 mil.
Slots, holes, rounded or square corners, and custom shapes are available with a $50 minimum order. Laminate pouches may be bulk packed or packed in cartons of 100, 500, or however you want them. Turnaround time is usually less than a week.
